WCU, Here I Come!

In one week from Thursday, I will be kicking off the semester at West Chester University in PA. Some of you might not think that's a big deal, but did you know that a little group of dudes that call themselves "The Bridge Band" will be there with me? Well, well, well...the deal gets sweeter, huh?

I'm so excited to be starting things off close to home with my good friends Greg, Steve, and Brian. I know it'll be a great night, so if you're in the area, this is an open invitation to come out to Main Hall on Sept. 17 to see the show.

I'll be the little dude on stage after the Bridge Band plays.

Jars Of Clay's Dan Haseltine

In addition to Chris Sligh singing for us at RADIATE09, one of our speakers this year will be none other than front man Dan Haseltine from Jars of Clay.

Wow, what a lineup! I'm super excited to see all of these highly influential people at RADIATE, now at the Inner Harbor of Baltimore! Jars of Clay has been one of my favorite groups for a long time, so you know that I'm going to be more than a little star struck when Dan gets to the conference. Hopefully I won't babble like an idiot when I finally make his introduction and he comes to the stage. Pray that I don't blow it.

Keep checkin' to see what's up with the latest for RADIATE09 at RADIATE09.com (going live very soon) and right here at my site.

The Fro Patro!

In case you haven't heard, one of our special guests this year will be none other than Chris Sligh of American Idol fame. Most people don't always remember him by name, but by appearance...so I've included a picture for you to go, "oooohhh, I remember that guy! He was the one that put Simon in his place that one year! I liked him!"

Then you will inevitably say, "wait, he's a Christian?" Yep. And he will be at RADIATE09 this year, suckas! Chris was up for a Dove Award this year and even wrote the current Rascal Flatts hit "Here Comes Goodbye". Pretty sweet, huh?

I'm really looking forward to having him with us this year at RADIATE and am curious what kind of questions I should ask him in the interview I will be doing with him at the conference. Do you have any suggestions?

Sound off!

Pirates, Cars and Parodies

I'm currently in the process of writing a couple of parodies that may or may not be related to the picture above. These parodies will be used to promote RADIATE09 and all of its glory.

It's so much fun to write parodies for this conference. It brings a lot of joy to me knowing that I can hopefully bring a lot of joy to you, the college student. Keep a lookout for these said parodies this fall and you won't be disappointed when you see them. Well, maybe.

Ill

I'm feeling pretty sick today, so no witty or mildly entertaining blog at this time. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow and I'll have something to write about/comment on.

On a different note, I'm looking forward to my first show of the year at West Chester University! I'll be there on Sept. 17th and just heard from the guys...the Bridge Band will be playing with me that night. Yee Haw!

See you all soon!

Pray for Virginia Tech

Please pray for the students, staff and all those affected by another senseless tragedy at Virginia Tech. Two students were shot and killed in the forest close to campus and both of them were involved with Campus Crusade for Christ.

I am personally so confused by this and am completely heartbroken that these things keep happening at my alma mater. I love my school and I love the little town of Blacksburg. If you have any connection at all with VT, be sure to send love their way in this hard time.

6 Stops...Maybe More

Back in college, I started a club on my campus called The Medieval Alternative Transportation Club. Basically, it was just a bunch of dudes that decided to get around campus in unique ways. One guy had a unicycle, one  had a skateboard, and I had a moped scooter. We wanted funding from the campus so we could throw a party every now and then, so we made an official proposal to a committee in order to have our club recognized, and therefore funded by the University.

In the meeting, they asked us what our mission statement was, and on the fly I blurted out, "To feel the wind in our hair."

Club status approved and the rest is medieval history.

I'll be making the rounds this upcoming semester at about 6 schools, but it's a possibility that there could be more. Keep a lookout for the Seminar Tour and hopefully I'll see you on the road. I'll be the one in the duct tape helmet, riding a Yamaha Razz at the blistering speed of 41 MPH.

Photo Shoot

Yesterday was the photo shoot for RADIATE09. They needed a new picture of me for the upcoming brochure/website, so there you have it. I must say that when someone takes about 1000 pictures of you all in a row from different angles, you feel pretty conspicuous...even if you are just leaning up against a wall someplace.

This one won't be used in the brochure, but it was artsy and made me look like I was in a band. And hey, who doesn't want to be in a band?

Dave Matthews and Everystudent.com

Everystudent.com is website to safely explore questions about God and life. It has been a tremendous resource for college students all over the world to begin to understand who God is and what kind of plan He has for each of our lives. Millions of lives have been changed by this amazing site and I'm really proud to be associated with it.

There is a short video of me on the website where I get to talk about an encounter I had with Dave Matthews in a shopping center. The video leads into the idea that God exists and we need to have a personal encounter with Him. Take a second and check out the video and the rest of this amazing website that you can share with some of your friends.

Shelby's Seminar This Fall

Coming soon to a campus near you!

Be sure to check out the calendar on my site to see what campus I'll be coming to this fall semester. I'll be all over the Mid-Atlantic area in the coming months and I look forward to seeing and connecting with students from a wide variety of places...all with different geographical vernacular.

I'm kicking the semester off at West Chester University in Pennsylvania in mid September and will be on the road, leading up to our biggest conference of the year, RADIATE09! Can't wait to see what happens!

Keep up with me on Facebook or Twitter for more day-to-day adventures. See you soon!
